Let’s Be Nice to the Ocean Roundtable at the Monaco Ocean Week: join us!

Le 20/03/2024

Join us at the upcoming Monaco Ocean Week, where representatives and partners of the Let’s Be Nice to the Ocean initiative will convene for a roundtable conversation.

This event is open to ocean stakeholders wishing to participate. It will be held on Wednesday, 20 March 2024, from 14h00 to 15h30 CET, at the Novotel Monte Carlo (16 Bd de la Princesse Charlotte).

During the session, we will cover:

  • A review and discussion of the proposals contained in the Let’s Be Nice to the Ocean e-book published on the website of the Monaco Ocean Week.
  • Civil society initiatives and outreach opportunities in the run-up to Nice, including linkages with Let’s Be Nice to the Ocean.
  • A review and discussion of the activities of the Let’s Be Nice to the Ocean initiative since it was launched in November 2023, and plans in the run-up to the 3rd UN Ocean Conference in Nice.
  • Next steps: content of the San José Addendum, a publication containing inputs from stakeholders with outside the box initiatives for ocean protection, which we will release at the Immersed in Change conference. This event is organised by the Government of Costa Rica (co-chair of the Nice Conference) on 7-8 June 2024, exactly one year before the 2025 UN Ocean Conference in Nice.

Participation in the roundtable is open to all ocean stakeholders. We are pleased to confirm that we will be joined by, among others:

  • André Abreu, Policy Coordinator of the Tara Ocean Foundation.
  • Puri Canals, President of MedPAN.
  • Vincent Doumeizel, Senior Adviser to the UN Global Compact.
  • Minna Epps, Head, IUCN Ocean Centre for Conservation Action.
  • Fabio Greco, Managing Director and Head of Research at the Ocean Born Foundation.

Organized in collaboration with our partners the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Ocean & Climate PlatformTBA21 Academy, and with the participation of other partners including the Tara Ocean FoundationMedPAN and the Ocean Born Foundation, this roundtable is an opportunity to progress outside the box discussions on stakeholders’ expectations and hopes little more than one year before the 2025 UN Ocean Conference takes place in Nice.

The Principality of Monaco, located just outside the city of Nice, is a key partner of the 2025 UN Ocean Conference, hosting key events including a Blue Economy Forum on 7-8 June 2025, with participation from relevant multilateral financial and development organizations.

We are looking forward to welcoming you on 20 March.
